New pre-surgical treatment for cleft patients

Amman, July 4, 2022

As part of the organization’s actions to provide comprehensive care on time, Operation Smile Jordan started to install a device called “FMO” for three children with cleft.

As it’s a supportive device for preoperative treatment which is used to reduce the size of the cleft, gums, and nose before surgical repair and is placed after the first week of the birth.

Two volunteer dentists, Dr. Yanal Fakhoury, and Dr. Jumana Delbah, were sent to attend a specialized training course in the field of cleft lip and palate that was held in Morocco, to train them in the preparation and installation of the FMO (Functional Maxillary Orthopedics) device. Later on, they attend another training course in Abu Dhabi.

The organization relies on volunteers to implement its projects, as they are the main contributor to the success of its programs by utilizing their knowledge and experience in serving the local community.

The device will be provided for free for the children registered in the organization’s records, to better prepare them for the surgery and reduce the occurrence of any complications.

Operation Smile Jordan aims to achieve its goals by enhancing the chances of every patient to obtain comprehensive health care on time, with the support and assistance of donors and stakeholders.
